The World’s A Stage

The theatrical arts have a way of capturing the very being of man. They are a reflection of who we are at our center as well as showing us at our very best or our very worst. There is no question about the importance that the arts have for all of humanity. However, it means that much more to those who choose to pursue it as their life’s purpose. Here at Florida Southern College, the students who pursue the arts as their career, as well as the students who have moved on from this institution, have the drive and passion to achieve all they aspire to be.

Over this past year, the theater department at FSC has put on 32 shows across 6 productions both on the mainstage and second stage. It was a year filled with parting favorites from the program with its graduating seniors and rising stars as each show brings us something new to see.

The most recent production to come out of the FSC theater department has been The Addams Family Musical. It is a comical story about a not-so-normal family trying their best to tackle the everyday challenges that life brings.

This show, like every show for the Florida Southern Theater Department, is a learning experience for not only the actors but also the technicians and designers that make up the student body. It also serves as a farewell performance for some of the familiar faces form the stage.

Luis Guzman, 21, a musical theater and technical theater double major, portrayed Gomez Addams in this past Fall musical and has had a hand in the making of all the mainstage musicals in the past couple of show seasons during his four years at FSC.

I got the chance to meet Luis as well as his co-star Grace Villegas to talk about their Addams Family experience. Here is what they had to say.

Luis and the rest of his class are excited about where their careers will take them once their time at FSC ends. As they enter the world of professional theater, they hope to join the ranks of the other alumni that have gone on to find success in their field.

The lessons taken from their time at FSC have stayed with these alum as they start to make their mark on the world. In an interview depicted below 2023 graduates Arianna Perera and Abby Almond give their responses when asked how what they have learned from their time at FSC has helped them navigate their field in the real world.

The recent graduating seniors of the theater department have certainly been active, to say the least.

With many traveling across the country in their breakout summer, these former mocs have wasted no time in furthering their careers. Below is a map of the places some 2023 grads have become working actors and performers.

The advetures that the people apart of FSC theater has only begun as they urge to further their respective careers in the entertament industry. What they take from their time at this institution that has prepaired them for whatever lies ahead and what they have left behind as their legacy are both priceless in the eyes of this department. Although their ambitions may take them both far and wide there will always be a part of them that will reside within the friendly confines of Florida Southern College.
